Thrift Store Shopping for Clothes

In fashion on September 6, 2015 at 5:13 am

As a teacher I made sure my children were well taken care of for the return to school.  They were blessed with money from family and friends.  Once their supplies, shoes, and clothing were all satisfactory I thought, “Hmm… What about me?”

With little to spare I turned to thrift store shopping for clothes as I honestly enjoy it.  I knew my savings was depleted and my next pay check was due in two weeks.  I went to a resale shop in a neighboring town and was truly elated to find two bags full of goodies.

That second hand clothing came with named brands I have heard of before and others I did not.  Nevertheless, the clothing looked fantastic and all of it fit!  I had enough money left over to purchase two new pair of shoes.

This particular thrift shop offers on certain days bags of clothing for a set price.  Years ago bags were $8 now they are $10.  I spent for two bags what I would have on one blouse regular retail!

The only negative thing is that as I peered through the racks of clothing I noticed a peculiar looking bug.  I believe it was a bedbug.  That encouraged me even the more to come home and wash my findings immediately!   Not to mention, the woman who checked me out did not touch the clothing.  She dumped my shopping, paper bag into a plastic trash bag.  It is likely it was a bed bug.

It is a great find when I thrift shop and snag brands that I know are far out of my purchase power.  For example, years ago I purchased a business suit from Goodwill for little and it was from the Limited, I believe.  It was gorgeous…  Too bad I can’t still fit it!

I can imagine in a place like that with some of everything in it there are many bugs and unwanted pests.  I am so grateful to have begun the year looking fresh and not a soul has to know that my clothes were gently used and not new!

What to Feed Venus Fly Trap

In carnivorous plants on August 25, 2015 at 3:34 am

Joel Garner’s B52 Venus Fly Trap

One could think of their carnivorous plant, Venus Fly Trap as a pet. Naturally, wanting to see your plant flourish and grow it is important to know what to feed venus fly trap.

Joel Garner

Joel Garner

According to carnivorous plant expert, Joel Garner, at Venus Fly Traps do not necessarily have to be fed a thing!  That’s right. However, you must water your Traps and give them appropriate sunlight.  Joel also shows in the video below that a Venus Fly trap owner can feed freeze dried blood worms!

With this method of feeding you Trap be sure to use a pointed-edged tweezer (as opposed to the dull edged tweezer) so as not to harm the leaves.  It’s amazing how manipulating the Venus Fly trap by squeezing the leaves can make it think the food is living!  You can get freeze dried blood worms from your local pet store.

If you choose not to feed your Trap and it dwells inside, the appropriate water to provide for your Venus Fly Trap include reverse osmosis water (specific filtered water), distilled water, or pure rain water.  Believe it or not, regular tap water or purified water are discouraged as Traps are choosy and could possibly keel over and die due to water treatment.

Reverse Osmosis Water System

Reverse osmosis water  can be accessible through filtration systems. Reverse osmosis water is essentially distilled water.  These water types minimize exposure of minerals to the Fly Trap due to the steaming of the water.  These waters, of course, can also be purchased at your local grocer.

Rain water is desirable as it is a natural fit for irrigating Fly Traps.

Rain Water Barrel

Drought or dry seasons could make this source of sustenance difficult.  Fly Traps that live outdoors not only get exposre to necessary sunlight and rain water, but they can feed themselves.  Naturally they will trap flies and other insects for food without any human assistance.

It is advisable to feed your Trap about an inch of water.  Carefully observe and watch to see for saturation of the water throughout the plant roots.  Once the water has been consumed, repeat!

Personally, I have fed my own Fly Trap dead flies and squeezed the leaves to make it think the fly was living and it was absolutely amazing to see the trap close in!  I have also watered my Trap with both distilled and rain water.  Neither was very time consuming as my heart was set on caring properly for my plant.

Venus Fly Traps are the most unique little plants!  To keep them healthy and vibrant see to it that they are sunbathed daily, getting adeuate and the right types of water.  Also should you choose to feed your Trap use sharp-edged tweezers to insert the freeze dried bloodworm.  Do not forget to squeeze the trap several times to make the carnivorous plant think you have fed it a real live insect.

Happy feeding Venus Fly Trap!

How to Dread Your Hair Yourself

In Uncategorized on August 18, 2015 at 10:56 pm

Personal experience is using a loctician to start up my locs, however, I feel my knowledge can Dreadlocks-naanished ligh t on anyone to know how to dread your hair yourself.

I had an inch of permed hair cut off before having my hair two strand twisted as starter locs.  I wore the twist one month before having my loctician latch my hair.

For those independent locticians to your own hair it is important to choose the style of maintainence you will use to upkeep your locs.  By maintainence I mean twisting, latching or interlocking, palm rolling, or simply free forminng.

To learn more about these methods of loc maintainence read my hub here on how to dread your hair yourself.  Latching is my choice way up loc upkeep as it is more permanent than and twisting.  When you first begin locing depending upon  the coarseness of your hair the hair could unravel.  With latching the interlocking pattern secures the hair.  You can wash your hair as such point and just watch and wait for the locing process (budding) begins!

It is that simple!  You dread your hair yourself by getting your hair to a natural state, briading or twist it and let it grow!  Again, you must choose how you will maintain your hair monthly.  It goes without saying the importance of moisturizing the hair and especially the scalp.

I used Mango Locing cream when I first started locing.  I was very satisfied with that product.  You can use this to moisturize your scalp as well.
